ISU Alum, Successful Businessman to Speak at Annual Reiman Entrepreneurial Lecture Series
Ames, Iowa -- An Iowa State University alumnus who is a former international executive with Apple Computer Inc., and now the president and chief executive officer of a California technology start-up firm, will be the next speaker in the fifth annual Reiman Entrepreneurial Speaker Series April 1-2.
Craig Elliott, who has a B.S. in animal science, will present "From ISU To IPO," 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 2, Sun Room, Iowa State Memorial Union. Lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m. This event is free and open to the public; pre-registration is required.
Following graduation from Iowa State, Elliott spent 10 years with Apple, where he worked a variety of executive positions covering sales and marketing program development, business and product development and strategic alliances for the company's Networking and Communications Products and Internet and Online business groups. Elliott's international responsibilities at Apple encompassed 80 countries.
An entrepreneur at heart, Elliott became employee number three at a new start-up company, Packeteer, headquartered in Cupertino, Calif., in 1996. During his tenure as president and chief executive officer, Elliott secured more than $20 million in private funding and recently led the company to its successful Initial Public Offering (IPO) raising an additional $66 million dollars.
Packeteer is a leading provider of application traffic management systems that enable enterprises, service providers and other organizations to align network resources with business priorities. Elliott continues to serve on the Board of Directors of Packeteer. The company employs more than 200 people today.
A published author, Elliott is a frequent speaker at industry shows and conferences such as Networld + Interop, PC Expo, Technologic Partners and Red Herring Magazine events, as well as financial conferences sponsored by Goldman, Sachs, Bears Stern, Robertson Stephens and Hambrecht & Quist.
"We're excited to have the opportunity to have Craig on campus to talk about his personal experiences of taking a company from start-up through the IPO process," said Judi Eyles, associate director of the ISU Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship at Iowa State. "Thanks to the generosity of the Reimans, Elliott will not only speak publicly but will also participate in student classrooms, meet with technology companies, and interact with others associated with entrepreneurship at Iowa State University."
To pre-register, call the ISU Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship at (515) 296-6532. The deadline for registration is 5 p.m. Monday, March 31.
